Choose between hiding motion and replacing the Live Photo

If you only dislike motion during playback, you may only need the Live Photo editing controls in Apple Photos. Apple supports reverting photo edits to the original. Treat an editable effect change as a presentation choice, not evidence that the underlying motion has been removed or that storage has been reclaimed.

Converting to a separate still asset is a different operation. Photo Pure’s current implementation exports the photo resource, creates a still image in Photos and requests deletion of the original. Freoza develops Photo Pure. This explanation comes from the app workflow and source review, not a new storage benchmark.

Before you convert a batch

  • Keep an independent copy of any original whose motion or sound matters. Check that the backup actually contains the Live Photo, not just a still preview.
  • Remember that iCloud Photos synchronizes deletions across devices. A second synced device is not an independent backup of an original you delete.
  • Start with a few expendable examples. Check the still image, orientation and appearance before processing a larger set.
  • Leave working space available for reading originals and creating the still copies. A nearly full phone may struggle with conversion.

Convert selected Live Photos in Photo Pure

  1. Open the compression area and switch to the Live Photo tab.
  2. Review the items and select only the Live Photos whose motion you intend to remove. The workflow supports selection of multiple items; access limits may depend on your current entitlement.
  3. Read the conversion confirmation. Continuing creates still assets and requests deletion of the selected originals; it is not a keep-both-copies export option.
  4. Allow the operation to finish, then open Photos and inspect the newly created still images.
  5. Check any failed or missing items separately. Do not assume a success message proves every selected source was available or that the displayed estimate equals newly available device storage.

Why does available storage not rise by the displayed amount?

The app estimates savings using the paired video component of the selected Live Photos. That estimate describes source media; it is not a measurement of the phone’s free space before and after the operation. iCloud storage optimization, working copies and Recently Deleted can make the device-storage change different.

Apple keeps deleted photos in Recently Deleted for a recovery period. Do not empty it just to make a storage number match an estimate. First verify the converted images and any independent originals you need to preserve. Permanent deletion removes a recovery path. No fixed percentage or instant amount of reclaimed storage is promised here.

What information survives conversion?

The current conversion code explicitly copies the original creation date, location and favorite status to the new still asset. That does not establish that every edit, album membership or piece of metadata is preserved. If any of those matter to your library, check a small sample before continuing.

A still image does not retain the original Live Photo’s motion and sound. It is unsuitable when the moving moment is the memory you want to keep. For those images, leave the original alone and look for unwanted screenshots, duplicates or large videos instead.

Decide whether conversion fits your cleanup task

Choose this workflow for Live Photos you deliberately want to replace with stills. For a few playback changes, Apple Photos may be sufficient. For video files you want to keep in motion but make smaller, use a video-compression workflow and review its output separately.

Photo Pure also offers duplicate and similar-photo review, screenshot review and large-video cleanup. Those are separate choices: a similar photo is not automatically unwanted, and a large file is not automatically safe to delete. Review the content and current purchase terms in the app before acting.
