Split when you want a sequence of shorter recordings or need to send a long session in parts. Compress when you want the entire recording in one smaller file. You can also split first and compress a segment if it remains too large.
Equal duration does not necessarily mean equal file size. A segment with more motion or different encoding characteristics can use a different number of bytes.
Divide the recording
- Open the video splitting workflow and select the source recording.
- Choose a segment duration or the number of equal parts.
- Review the proposed lengths and estimated sizes.
- Export the segments and check the order before sending them.
Check boundaries and file sizes
Play the end of one segment and the beginning of the next to make sure the intended content is present. Check actual sizes rather than relying only on estimates.
If you need a specific action to remain together, change your split setup or choose a tool with the manual editing workflow you need. Duration-based splitting is not automatic scene recognition.
Keep a usable set of files
- Name or order the parts so the recipient can follow them.
- Confirm each part meets any destination size or duration limit.
- Check audio near the cut boundaries.
- Keep the original until the complete set has been reviewed.
