Choose a photo that carries the mood

A street with red shopfronts, a green garden or a muted seaside scene can each make a useful palette card. Choose a source whose colors you want to keep. Large areas of sky or shadow can influence the extracted swatches, so inspect the complete image before importing it.

The card pairs the photo with its colors and a caption. For a series, use a consistent background and short titles so that the images and swatches carry the variation.

Create the card in Color Palette

  1. Choose Color Palette on the home gallery and start creating.
  2. Select your photo in the media picker and open the editor.
  3. Review the extracted color strip and HEX labels. Drag the image to adjust framing and use the zoom control if needed.
  4. Edit the caption and detail text. Choose the cream, sage or ink background and check text legibility.
  5. Open export settings, select an image for a static card, and export. Review the saved result in Photos before sharing.

Understand what the palette represents

The displayed colors come from the source image. Lighting, edits and the source image itself affect them. Use the card as a visual reference for your photograph. When you adjust the composition, check the card as a whole because the palette is extracted from the loaded source.

HEX labels are rendered into the card. Keep the original media when you want to revisit the source or create another composition.

Use moving media deliberately

The template also accepts video and Live Photos. Its palette is based on the cover and stays stable as the picture moves. Choose video to keep a moving source’s duration, or Live Photo for up to the first three seconds. An image export captures the current picture.

For a static source, a moving-file export holds the composed image. Choose your output according to where you will share it, then check that the receiving app plays the expected motion.
