Start with the result you want
For a short travel clip, a scene with your reaction in a corner may be enough. For a demonstration you plan to edit later, separate camera files can be more useful. Decide this before recording: a flattened picture-in-picture video does not retain both unobstructed source views.
If your iPhone supports Apple’s Dual Capture, try Camera → Video → camera controls → Dual Capture. It may already meet your needs. Apple’s linked guide lists its supported models. DoubleRec’s supported combinations are checked separately by the app; installing it does not unlock unsupported camera hardware.
A front/back recording checklist
- Once DoubleRec is available for your device and region, open Front & Back and select Video. Choose Photo instead if you need a still image.
- Allow camera access and microphone access when recording sound. Check that the rear scene and your face both appear.
- Choose the layout and output before starting. Combined creates one composed result; Separate Files keeps the camera views apart.
- For a travel reaction, keep the inset away from the landmark. For a demonstration, check that hands and the object remain visible in the rear view.
- Record a short sample, stop, then review picture and sound in Gallery. Save or share the result; review each item when using separate files.
Framing two views is the real constraint
The position that shows a view well may place your face in harsh light or outside the front-camera frame. Stand still while checking both previews, keep fingers clear of both lenses, and choose a position that works for both subjects.
A quick spoken introduction followed by a visible action makes a useful test. Listen back as well as looking at the thumbnail. Dual video does not mean two independently positioned microphones.
If the mode or quality is unavailable
DoubleRec requires iOS 15 or later, but camera availability also depends on the hardware and the feasible camera combination. If Front & Back is not available, another mode using rear cameras is not an equivalent way to capture your face and the scene.
Resolution is selected within the device’s working limits. A 4K preference is not a promise of two 4K recordings, and this guide does not provide a tested model-by-model performance table. Use the active settings and a short exported sample to confirm the result.
