One event, two different compositions
A cooking demonstration or travel introduction may need a wide version for a longer video and a vertical version for a short clip. Recording both during the same action avoids repeating the performance, but each frame still needs its own composition.
This is different from filming one horizontal video and cropping a vertical version later. DoubleRec’s current mode uses two rear cameras. Their angle of view and perspective can differ; the second file is not a guarantee that every detail in the first file will be visible.
Check the camera combination first
Portrait & Landscape requires simultaneous Wide + Ultra Wide capture. A phone having two lenses, or meeting the iOS minimum, is not enough on its own. The app tests whether the combination can run.
The near/far single-camera zoom fallback does not enable this mode. If Portrait & Landscape is unavailable, capture one usable version and make a separate take or crop it later in an editor; do not plan a one-time event around an unavailable mode.
Set up the two outputs
- Choose Portrait & Landscape, then select Video before starting.
- Set a horizontal ratio such as 16:9 and a vertical ratio such as 9:16. Other available choices include 4:3 or 1:1 horizontally and 3:4 or 1:1 vertically.
- Check the subject in both previews. Leave space around gestures and objects; move the phone or subject if an important detail is missing from either view.
- Record a short test and keep the chosen device orientation steady. Review both files for framing, orientation, sound and usable resolution.
- Record the actual take, then open the results in Gallery. Save or share the displayed file and move to the second result to export that one too.
Review each file before publishing
Two outputs from the same session still need to be checked separately. Compare the first and last usable moments, confirm the main action appears in each, and listen to the sound. The app routes one microphone feed to its output writers; it is not a separate-microphone interview setup.
A composition that works at 16:9 may leave little room in 9:16 for platform controls or captions added later. Choose the framing during capture and review the actual upload preview in the destination app. DoubleRec is a capture tool; this workflow does not promise automatic posting or a built-in editing timeline.
Quality, storage and choosing another workflow
Two files need storage and processing capacity. Actual resolution depends on the device, mode and working configuration; a 4K preference do not guarantee every output will be 4K. Start with a short sample before a longer take.
If you only need one format, a normal recording can be simpler. If you already have a good landscape recording, crop a copy in an editor while keeping the original. Use simultaneous capture when two planned compositions of the same moment are worth the extra setup.
